August 2005 : The Big Apple

G's Birthday in the NYC

Trippin'.
It's Gerard's birthday and our first trip to NYC with some great friends to celebrate. A week of some typical NYC touristy activities including the Statue of Liberty, biking through Central Park, and watching RENT on broadway-- amazing! Well, amazing.. had the boys not fallen asleep during the best parts. Guess RENT was not a good choice for first timers. However, it's something to look back on and say I've done it. Although now I've got the broadway bug so naturally, I want more! This was definitely a fun trip with close friends and another birthday to remember.

24 - 28 March : Happiest Place

Celebrating Our 1 Year

Trippin'.
Amateur travelers that we were, we were conned into one of those time share "specials" that you often get coming through your fax machine at work. The deal was legit if it weren't for a few road blocks along the way which made the trip a bit irritating. This was before our discovery of reading internet reviews and blogs, before the Frommer's and Tripadvisor's of the world. But nevertheless, it has made us the "prepared" travelers that we are today. Only now did I realize with a little bit of research, we could have easily afforded a stay on the resort premises. Learn from your mistakes.
That aside, we had a memorable first time in Orlando. We spent our first day at Universal Studios. The weather was unpredicable; overcast one minute and bright sun the next. At one point while in line for the Mummy ride, a thunderstorm rolled in and it was pouring rain. Ridiculous, but only lasted about 5 minutes. That's Florida for you. Most enjoyable was seeing Shrek in 4-D! That's 4.. and not 3.
Disneyworld was just pure magical. We didn't realize how insanely huge each park would be. We ended up seeing Epcot and Disney's Hollywood Studios in one day and the Magic Kingdom on our last day, skipping Animal Kingdom because of time. Note-- If you're going in March or April, a rain poncho will come in handy. Rain comes and goes in a matter of minutes.

Sleeping:
Hampton Inn. We now know, budget or not, you can easily stay on the Disneyworld premises. Do your research.
Memorable Moment: When we arrived, we took a cab through a Sonic Drive- In near our hotel. Our first Sonic burger experience and well worth the additional fare fee. I did rush the guy at the window and reminded him that he is racking up our cab bill to which he replied, "I've never seen anyone pull up in a cab before."

Also, our very first I "heart" you's were exchanged during the Main Street fireworks show.
